Students
The NDAFP offers a number of opportunities for medical students to interact with the family physicians of North Dakota. We offer Family Medicine Interest Group Events, the Don Breen Externship, payment of student membership dues by the NDAFP Foundation, and a 4th Year student loan program. The American Academy of Family Physicians has an extensive information database available for students. The AAFP information can be found at http://fmignet.aafp.org.
FMIG Events
Fall
An Evening with a ND Family Physician
A social hour with exhibits by the state residency programs followed by
a dinner that allows casual networking conversation with family physicians
from around the state. After dinner, there will be a speaker or panel of
speakers with topics related to family medicine in North Dakota.
Workshop or informational session
various topics available.
Previous topics have included casting, Obstetrics, suturing,
dermatology, and Families in Family Medicine.
Spring
Another Workshop or Informational Panel
Annual Spring Indoor Picnic
The week before final block exams a catered meal at the medical
school for the family to see where you have been spending all your time
and/or a chance to take a break from studying for exams.
Don Breen Externship
A four week opportunity completed between 1st and 2nd year of medical school to preview a family medicine career in North Dakota.
Loan Program
A 4th year medical student who is a ND Resident and has an interest in Family Medicine may apply for this. The principal and interest may be deferred while participating in an approved ND Family Medicine Residency Program. To apply for this loan please contact the UNDSMHS Financial Aid office.
